Black Velvet Begonia

Description

Black Velvet Begonia is a striking live begonia with deep, velvety foliage that adds rich color and texture to a terrarium, enclosed plant display, or indoor plant collection. Each plant is propagated from cuttings harvested from our mother plant, which is housed with our bumblebee poison arrow frogs.

Because the mother plant is kept with our frogs, these plants are grown without pesticides or other poisonous treatments that could harm them. This makes Black Velvet Begonia an excellent choice for frog keepers and hobbyists who want to add living plants to a frog-safe environment. As with any live plant, inspect and rinse it according to your own enclosure-preparation routine before introducing it to an established habitat.

Available Sizes

Choose the size that best fits your collection:

• 2-inch pot: a compact option for smaller terrariums, starter enclosures, desks, and shelves.
• 3-inch pot: a fuller choice for growing displays and medium-sized enclosures.
• 5-inch pot: a larger statement plant for spacious terrariums, indoor displays, and collectors who want more established foliage.

Plants are living specimens, so each one may vary slightly in leaf shape, size, color, and fullness from the photographs. The plant you receive will be selected from healthy available stock and carefully prepared for shipment.

Growing and Placement

Provide bright, indirect or filtered light and avoid harsh direct afternoon sun. Use a well-draining growing medium and a container with drainage. Water when the growing medium begins to dry slightly, avoiding constantly saturated soil. Good airflow and appropriate humidity help support healthy growth, especially in enclosed displays.

Shipping Information

We ship live plants on Mondays only so they are not sitting in the post over the weekend. A cold pack must be included when shipping to a cold region. Please add the required cold pack to your order when available. Weather conditions can affect live-plant shipping, so please consider local temperatures before ordering.
